Would be great to auto PM a welcome message......in addition to the email for registering......

And, PM'ing the entire userbase for very important annoucements.

mass pm exists. I made the first version but i think it was improved upon.

and people wouldn't mind frequent PM's that clutter up their inbox, preventing them from receiving other PM"s if they don't keep up in time and remove some?

Well that depends on limitations of inbox size, true, but I know which -I- would prefer... :)
