Is it possible to use a different set of post icons?

The standard ones in vb4 are not cutting it for me and I want to know how, if at all, I can use some of my own. I lack technical knowledge and am openly asking for help. :)

Yes, personally I'd obtain the ones I wanted to use (I'm gonna stick my neck out and say you're looking at the Vb 3.8 ones?) if I'm right in that case, you should simply be able to download a copy of the 3.8 software, locate and separate the forum icons (check they are called the same as the version 4 ones- ie locked.gif or something like that) then upload and overwrite the version 4 ones with the version 3s..

They would have to be PNG's now, I think, instead of GIFs like before?? I am working this issue on 2 forums!

If the VB 4 ones (for example) are PNG and the VB 3 ones are GIFs (which I personally very much doubt without checking as I'm sure they'd be the same whichever one it is) just change the GIFs to PNGs in photoshop, PSP or if you haven't got anything like that gimp, which is a free editing software and more than capable of doing that

actually I've just looked at Vbulletin.com and compared the icons with here and the VB 4 ones are PNG so just change the vb 3 ones from a GIF to PNG as above then upload and overwrite

There's actually slightly more to it than this as I've looked into it and was going to update to vb 4.2 myself today until this happened-

anyhoo, you would have to alter the name slightly of most of the replacement buttons to match the default VB 4.2 ones (also the vb 4 buttons are slightly bigger than the vb 3 ones) I've altered most of mine already in preparation, if you want them give me a shout

Yep tis me :)

The attached are what I've done so far, basically converted all the contents of the vb 3.8 status icons folder into .png's and renamed to coincide with the vb 4.2 ones (as far as I can tell) so they can be directly replaced...in theory at any rate... owing to my php issues on my upgrade this afternoon they haven't been tested... I did intend to go through all the icons and stuff and replace them and was hoping for my site to be live on 4.2 by now but alas this hasn't happened :(

I think there may well be some that aren't right and some others that need to be converted as there is more in the 4.2 folder than the 3.8 folder, although the differences may not matter or something else could be converted or used to cover these if this is the case, I simply don't know as I have no means of testing them or even looking at what is what until I can get a 4.2 site running... whatever the case let me know how you get on, if they are ok etc and I'll assist wherever I can :)

I will get back to you, but they all (both sets) are in the same folder/directory in my install.
