? upgrading to 4.2

I'm running 4.1.9

2 questions:
1) How - specifically - so I upgrade to 4.2 ?
I'm feeling like a moron, but I don't readily see how to do this.

2) When I upgrade, will I lose mods (e.g., extensions, changes to templates, etc) that I made.

THANKS

Yes, you will need to go in and re-edit whatever templates you have edited. As far as your mods.....it depends on what versions you have or not. All you can do is re-enable the plugin/hook system after the upgrade and re-enable each mod one ny one and see if they work. If not, look for a counterpart in the Mod section....4.x

Thanks.
I may hold off on upgrading to 4.2
From the vBulletin.com patch page... I downloaded and extracted the following:
Security patch: 4.1.9 Forum PL4

That should be sufficient in terms of security, right ?
Or, should I go up to 4.1.12 ?
If so, how do I upgrade to 4.1.12?
My understanding is that... the patch (Security patch: 4.1.12 Forum PL4) works *only if* I'm already running 4.1.12

Help.
Sorry for these newbie questions.

vb never forces you to upgrade to a later version to apply security patches. Just download and apply the patch appropriate for your version. Thus, 4.1.9 pl4 is probably fine for you.

However, as scary as some of these upgrades may be, it is one reason we went with vb. Nothing would be worse than the software being frozen and abandoned.

Posts above answer the questions I'm just adding in more input.
I'm running 4.1.9

2 questions:
1) How - specifically - so I upgrade to 4.2 ? - There is a vBulletin readme file that is very simple to understand in the zip file that you download. There is also a vBulletin maunal - https://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/. Type in 'upgrade'

2) When I upgrade, will I lose mods (e.g., extensions, changes to templates, etc) that I made. - Since you are on 4.x already. No you should not lose any mods. Changes to templates can be easily updated by reverting them or making the changes after the upgrade.
