Have a situation with a developer I hired
 

In November of 2011 I hired a web designer (TheVBNinja) that replied to a request I put on Vbulletin.org. It's now May and he has not delivered a single thing to me, he just keeps giving me excuses. I hired him based off positive reviews from other members on this forum and now I'm in a difficult situation. I've been talking to another member on here who is having the same issue with this same person as well. I haven't asked him for a refund yet, but I will soon. I paid him via paypal, and he overseas which makes it difficult to get a refund. I was wondering if anyone else on here has been in a similar situation, and what you did to fix it? Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

Sorry for you. I feel you won't get your money back. Next time don't make any upfront payment unless your guy shows some progress.

In general paying upfront is a bad idea- I know some coders won't take jobs without down payments but there are some who will.

I like to have a working demo of a mod setup on a test forum for someone to play with before money exchanges hands. I've been on both sides of those transactions and it works for me.

But I simply don't take jobs so big I would be financially hurt if a buyer cancels.

Sorry to hear about your issues. I hope that they will be resolved soon. Do you mind telling us who that person is that you hired btw? A story has 2 sides and personally I do not take sides without hearing both versions.

P.s. May I ask why did you wait so long? If the person you hire to do work on your forum does not deleiver than it would be best to act quickly with asking for a refund rather than waiting half a year.

You should of asked for a refund from paypal as it is over the 45 days you are now to late just hope it was not to much as now you have lost it

I'm sorry for your experience. I have experienced the same problem with a member here. I finally found another web master for my site through a website that specializes in providing experienced freelancer's. For me, this is a well suited situation to protect both parties from theft. Best of Luck!

I understand the reason, but from the other point of view, all coders we're becoming "possible gilty" to visitors. eg Everybody can think "Och, Chris was the one who gots the money and disappeared".

In my opinion there are 2 possible ways to solve this problem:
1.- To allow posting names as a way to protect the professionalism of other coders (as long as there are proofs for this post, and the coder has the possibility to post his reply).
2.- (most useful) to delete such posts as they're meanless. A post "I paid someone who disappeared", has no sence.

This thread has merit as is if only to serve as a warning to others to not pay in advance or at the very least do not let the 45 days PayPal allows to lapse without getting anything of value from the coder.

I personally agree we could have better rules for "paid services" here and if you would like to give your suggestions the Feedback Forum is the best place to have that discussion.

If the customer hired a coder as a result of a thread he posted here in the paid requests forum he is allowed to leave his feedback, good or bad, of the coder he hired in the thread.
