Require users to introduce themselves in introduction thread.

I've a forum where I programatically insert users (so filling out introduction during registration is out of the question) and the guys are participating, but they are not introducing themselves. I'd like to make it mandatory that new users introduce themselves if they want to post.

Sort of like... Your must introduce yourself in the introductions thread before you're allows to post.

Is there a mod that can do this or can this be done without a mod?

It can be done without a mod with usergroups and promotions.

Make a new usergroup with the same permissions as your Registered Usergroups is now.

Then limit the permissions of registered users to only be able to post new threads and only in an introduction forum, with no permission to post elsewhere on the site.

Then setup a usergroup promotions to promote users with 1 post to the new usergroup (that had the same permissions as "Registered Users" used to.)

Since they are only allowed to post in the introduction forum and only allowed to make a new thread (not reply to anyone else's) the only post they can make would be an introduction of some sort.

The only thing to remember is the promotion isn't effective immediately, I believe on most forums it's a cron job that runs every 15 minutes.

Thanks for this Joe, paired with the notifications section I've created a funnel that does exactly like I was wanting. Now we'll see how it goes!

I did this. I renamed Regular Users to Moderated Users and restricted posting to only the introduction forum.

Problem!!

When a moderated member clicks on "Reply with Quote" on a message in another forum other than Introductions, they get this message:

You have been banned for the following reason:
No reason was specified.

Date the ban will be lifted: Never
.

Rather than a message telling them that they don't have access because they need to post.

How can I fix this?

Thanks!!

Nelson

I answered your other post already

Thanks so much!! You are a lifesaver! I had about 50 complaints on that!

One thing- I now have to moderate all their first posts. I changed the moderation queue setting in the usergroup Registered Members from No to Yes and it still moderates their first posts.

Any idea what I am doing wrong? I'm sure I am doing something wrong.
