Setting image sizes in CMS Article

I guess I'm missing something simple here but after a lot of searching I can't find the answer. Therefore please could someone explain how I set the size of the image in a CMS article? At the moment they are appearing full size like on this page: http://www.maxbashing.com/content.ph...LiPo-Batteries

I need them to be a max of 580 pixels wide.

I've set it to this in the image_large_max style var and also in the attachment manager preferences (for all formats) but neither seems to make any difference.

Thanks

If you want to set a max size for all images there, just add something like this to the additional.css:
.article img {max-width: 400px;}

You should be able to click on the image when in WYSIWYG mode and set a size for the image also.

Excellent, thanks for the css fix, added that it an it worked a treat - will keep it simple for my mods adding news.

I've seen references to the "image settings" and thought it primitive that you couldn't do things like this but never found them. From what you're saying, I'm guessing it's because when I add images, I use the manage images button and insert inline, this just shows the images as

Is there another way to insert images so they show in the post?
It's one thing that annoys me with VB, you get all the instructions on how to do the fancy stuff but not the simple things, for simple people like me :)

If you use the WYSIWYG editor, then you will see the actual image in the editor when you are creating the post/article and you may click on it to edit it. You cannot do so while in Source Mode.

I added that to additional css but i don't see any difference.?
Did i miss something.?
Is this still good for 4.2?

Also i notice in the Style Var there is a place to set the size of videos in the article preview, but not images.!?
You can make videos a certain size, but zero adjustments for images.!?
In what world does that make sense. lol (see attached)

Thanks for any help. :)

check AdminCP > Settings > Options > content managment > use thumbnails in preview

This doesn't work...i set it for 200px...and it's still showing the same size

You set *what* to 200 px (I mentioned two ways to do it)? And can we get a link to view the problem?

I added the 200px to addition.css

here's a screenshot
I want all the thumbnail to be for example no more than 200px...so it can all be the same size. right now it looks awful with different image, different size
