A question about importing a forum
I'm considering merging two forums, or "importing" all threads and posts from the smaller one into the bigger forum. They are both vB, both 4.x and I will be using Impex.
Is there a way to permanently mark or stamp every post and thread that's being imported so the site visitors in future will know that the thread/post was originally created elsewhere? Can this stamp be in the form of a link? |
nobody? :(

The only way I can see doing this is to run a query on your small (going to be imported) database and add something to all the posts (the link you are talking about) prior to doing the import. Or, I suppose you could modify the ImpEx code to add the link as it is importing.

Thanks, Lynne.
I didn't know that was possible. I'll now go and investigate how I can run this query on the database to add something to all the posts. |
I can do this for you, do you have budget for this?

I would love to have assistance on this but, for confidentiality reasons, I can't give an unvetted third party access to my database. I would, however, be willing to pay for an expert to be available to assist by answering questions as and when they arise.
For example, the questions I have today are as follows: Forum 1 is the main forum and forum 2 is going to be imported into forum one. Within forum two there are links pointing to other threads (example: http : // forum2.com / forum/threads/1234 ). What happens to those links after the threads are imported? Do they still point to a forum2.com URL? How to get around that problem? |
Read about the cleaner.php script here - https://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/impex_cleaner
I suggest you go through the ImpEx documentation here - https://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/impex |
