Worried my post isn't going to get a reply

Not this post. ;)

I've tried to install a modification for my site... something in the instructions wasn't clear and it's left all of us unable to log in to the board at all so I can't disable the plugin either. :( I've posted a really simple question on the modification thread but looking back it seems that all other queries have gone unanswered and now I'm worried that we'll either not have a working board until someone replies or otherwise the only way we'll get our site working again is to reinstall everything from scratch!

Is this typical? I've had so many problems with vBulletin it's left me thinking me make a really bad move buying this over other forum software, particularly if the support isn't there.

Does anyone know where else I might be able to find general support please other than the main vBulletin site?

Thanks,

Victoria x

hum, i don't like that... the coder is irrelevantly inhuman, letting you on standby for TWO FULL HOURS... woo hoo...

you compare the support for a HACK to evaluate the value of the software which is released by a complete different entity...

ok, so if your husband is not taking care of the baby, it's because of Bill Gates ?!

drop the plugin if it's not working for you, and ask support at http://vbulletin.com for your needs... they have paid support.

Actually it's a legitimate concern. I've spent days reading through hundreds and hundreds of threads on here and if I had a pound for every post I've seen asking simple questions that have been ignored then I'd be very rich by now!!

I'm not making a dig at the person who wrote the hack. They don't owe me a damn thing and I think it's fantastic that people like that actually put in a lot of bloody hard work to get these things working.

BUT I know several other people running vBulletin sites. Every one of them has had significant problems on a number of occasions and they've waited MONTHS for a response, while some of them haven't had one period to their questions.

Now, back to my own forum issue, the developer hasn't posted on the thread since '09 Jul 2010, 19:15'. So I think I'm well within my right to be a little concerned that there might not be support available any longer!

Oh, and incidentally NO ONE has had their questions answer since this date. Some poor sod even posted asking for help on 27 Aug 2010, 22:34 and STILL hasn't had a reply!

You can disable all mods via your config.php file: https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/show...ystem-globally

That should get you out of any mod caused jam.

To temporarily disable the plugin system, edit includes/config.php and add this line right under <?php
PHP Code:

define('DISABLE_HOOKS'true);

Thank you both so so much. I really appreciate it. I'll do that now! :)

Even though this is the official vBulletin modifications site, each mod is released by a 3rd party, thus it's their choice whether they want to provide support or not. There are quite a lot of helpful people here who can help you outside the modification thread but it's not possible to answer every single request. After all, every one here is doing it in their free time without requesting anything back for it, so if that particular mod doesn't work, you should move onto another one that is still supported.

Same thing goes for me as well but the other way around. If I had every penny for every post that I have seen with questions whose answer was right in front of them or could be found with a little search then I would have been richer than Bill Gates by now :D

Installing a mod is done at one 'own risk. Before you install a mod, it won''t harm if you did your homework, i.e. some research on the mod in question and if it looks like its coder has not been active and/or doesn''t support that mod then either stay away from it or install it at your own risk and don''t complain if the the coder is not providing support.

For the rest it has been very well said by Ziki and vbenhancer above.
