Spammers Registering - no posts, no links

I have been noticing a trend lately with spammers. I will get a new registration with no links in their profile etc, no posts etc. They will just register.

I look at their profile, search their IP and see that their IP hasn't had any activity for the last X amount of months but was listed as a spammer in the past.

So you would think that maybe it was a dynamic IP and maybe a legitimate user, until you search the username. Then you will see that they have registered with 25 different forums that day with the same username.

It has me scratching my head wondering what's up. They must be testing something. I know it is a human registration because of my question and answer.

Now they know the type of questions you are asking and can flood you with bots that will get through your registration process

I use spamomatic and haven't had any issues so far either, I was just trying to figure out what they were doing. Guess I will change my question and answer.

I haven't heard of cloudflare but will look into that.

I'd love to hear a bit more about your experience with them. Are you on the paid or free plan? Did you experience any downsides from using them?
