SOPA Blackout Mod?

I run a few forums, and a few wordpress pages. I'm planning on joining in on the SOPA Blackout Protests on January 18th.

If you're unfamiliar with SOPA: http://americancensorship.org/infographic.html
If you're unfamiliar with the planned black out: http://blog.reddit.com/2012/01/stopp...-this-all.html

Anyway... There are a few people who made awesome Wordpress plugins that allow you to automatically schedule your blog to go black and provide information about SOPA to visitors during the blackout period...

I'm planning on running this one: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/...ackout-plugin/

I would LOVE to have something similar for vBulletin... and I think there are a lot of people who run vBulletin based communities who should really take a closer look at SOPA and how it could potentially effect them and consider joining the many other websites on the web in doing what they can to prevent it from passing.

-------

If no plugin is available before the 18th I'll simply plan on placing my forums in maintenance mode with a message alerting my visitors as to why.

Why in the world would I want to take my website offline as a protest to SOPA? Seems kind of silly to me. I can reach more people by staying up and posting messages of protest and where people can go to find out more information.

I would like this aswell.

The Blackout just a splash screen, clicking the screen allows you to continue browsing the webpage normally.

http://sopablackout.org/ explains this.

The Code for the splash is available on that site.

I would also like this done.

It's not silly it's better we all do the same thing to show unity sends a bigger message!

Here is my solution.

I used the script provided by that website (local copy, because I expect them to be hit hard & didn't want it to slow down my site). And I closed my site using this message.

Feel free to edit and change as you like
(you'll need to change the link and the name for your site anyways)

Attached is the local copy of the script.

Code:

<center>
<script type="text/javascript" src="//www.YOUR-DOMAIN/sopablackout.js"></script>
<p><b>Today, we are striking against censorship.</b></p>
<object width="560" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/JhwuXNv8fJM?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&start=15"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/JhwuXNv8fJM?version=3&amp;hl=en_US&start=15" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="560" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
<br />
<p>Today, YOUR SITE NAME has joined Wikipedia, Tucows, Reddit, Boning Boning<br />
and many others sites to temporary blackout our community for 24 hours <br />
to help bring aware the threats of SOPA and Protect IP (PIPA)<br /> </p>
<p>What is SOPA and Protect IP (PIPA) ?<p>
<p>I feel the video above does a fine job of explaining this.<br />
But basically The United States Government is trying to pass a bill that could<br /><b>censor everyone on The Internet</b>.<br /><br />
And it would affect you even if you're <b>NOT</b> an American Citizen or even if the website you try to visit is <b>NOT</b> an American website (we're not).</p>
<p>Please <b><a href="https://wfc2.wiredforchange.com/o/9042/p/dia/action/public/?action_KEY=8173">Contact your local Representative</a> or <a href="http://sopablackout.org/learnmore/">learn more</a></b><br />
Don't live in The USA? <b><a href="http://americancensorship.org/modal/state-dept-petition/index.html">PETITION THE STATE DEPARTMENT</a></b><br />
See you in 24 hours</p>
</center>

Demo

If you have a splash page, you can simply replace your enter image or add one

Here is mine

Yeah, I found out that that particluar code doesn't work as well as the one I'm currently using. For example, OldSchoolDSL, scroll down on your site when you get that "blackout" page ;)

EDIT: The 1st link btw (http://www.sociallyuncensored.eu/forums)

I'm aware it doesn't cover the full page.

But I couldn't find an alternative that worked the way that one does. I want one where you can continue onto the site to see my own message. ;)

It's only for 1 day.
