Integrating forum into iPhone App

Hey everyone, I am in the process of upgrading my iPhone application for my site.. I want to have the ability to interact through the forum though. My question is will I need to create my own API to interface with my App, or is there anyway to get to the data through like REST?

At this point its not practical for me to switch to the vbulletin Mobile suite as I already have an existing app that just needs forum integration. What you guys suggest I do to accomplish this?
