Dual column thread list page

It presents a neater appearance from the other tricks I've used to get 2 columns on the forum page. But having said that I'd like to see someone take it to the next level, the thread list.
I'm not plugging a request here, although it would be really cool, but just trying to find out why no one's ever bothered with it.
Is it too complicated to pull that off? Or is it just it's not what is expected in the mainstream apperance of that page?
If you look close at the page you see so much dead space. Why not put it to good use...
