Embedding Youtube clips for dummies
 

I am completely new to vbulletin, html, css etc etc and have created a vbulletin forum. I have a member who would like to embed a youtube clip into the forum but is having trouble getting it to show up in the thread. When I try all I come up with is a link to the youtube video. How do I get it to embed?

In vb3 I think you need a bbcode definition or a mod to do that. Here's one: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=202476 but there are probably more out there if you do a search.

This looks like what I am looking for, however as the thread indicates I am a html, css dummy can someone give me a step by step idiot proof instructions on how to do install this plug in?

Download the xml file to your computer. Then log in to your admin control panel and open the "Plugins & Products" section on the left (it's near the bottom) and click on "Manage Products". Next click on the "Add/Import Product" link under the product list and press the "Browse" button. Select the xml file you saved in the first step and press "open".

That should do it - read the mod page to see if there's anything else you need to know to use it.

I did that however when I enable the plug in the youtube clips that have been downloaded come up with an error that says this:

Fatal error: Call to undefined method vB_BbCodeParser::handle_bbcode_video() in /home/classic/public_html/includes/class_postbit.php(294) : eval()'d code on line 14

Do you know what the issue could be?

Well, that mod is for vb4 and you have vb3 so maybe it isn't compatible? I'm not sure because I haven't used that one.

ETA: yeah, looking through the thread, it looks like vb3 doesn't have the right functions for it to work.

Yeah that is what I just found out in the thread it says in order to run vb3 I would need to:

"in theory, you must check the script files where the according hooks are located and see how video tags are parsed there. Then you replace the function name with the current in the script, which doesn't seem to exist prior to vb4. The rest of the code should be generative enough that it works on vb3 too."

Sounds complicated, does anyone else have an easy plug in/product similar to that one but will work with vb3.8.7?
