DFP Small Business - The Ad Server you need to try

Hi

I monetize my forums via AdSense and direct sold advertising since 2005. At first I used OpenX as Ad Server which was ok, However 2 years ago I switched to the free Ad Server DFP Small Business from Google.

After working with it for over half a year I finally learned what I needed to know to really get it to do what I wanted.

The Ad Server is complex and powerful if you know how to use it.
It is fast and maintenance free. However learning to use it can take quite some time.

To spare you the learning curve I wrote an easy tutorial for people starting with DFP Small Business.

Hi,

How is this put into vBulletin?

I put the document header code into 'headinclude' template and the document detail in the vBulletin Advertise section.

When I use Adsense with it, it will generate adsense ads, but when I turn adsense off in DFP Small Business, it will not show my ads that I have in inventory.

So, am I doing something wrong?

Do you have assigned your inventory to the appropriate dfp ad units?
If DFP delivers AdSense into your forum via DFP Ad Units then your setup is correct and you made a mistake or forgot something when creating your inventory

ok, I'll look into that....

don't know where to look within DFP Small Business, but I'll look.

Do I have the Document header in the correct place, includeheader, I guess it's at the bottom.

And the document detail in the advertise section.

headinclude is the right place. Wrap the js in:

I didn't wrap it. Why do I need to do that?
Where exactly should it go?

I have it going right after the last normal </script> the the dfp header script is the last script, but it's not wrapped.

Had it working with a 468x60 banner, then tried to add another 468x60 banner and a Leaderboard 728x90, didn't work.

DFP Small Business stated it was giving impressions for all three banners, but it wasn't for the 2nd 468x60 and the 728x90.

Then, the Header code messed with Explorer 8.0 and it wouldn't render the rest of the page after the LeaderBoard.

I give up.
