Shaing customer # and password?

Hello,

I have a question. I need an upgrade done and the several webmasters that I spoke with all said they needed my customer number AND password in order to do this (for different reasons). But VB says to never give both and that only a customer number may be needed to complete an upgrade. No offense to anyone, I am not saying anyone that I spoke to was being dishonest. It makes sense that one would need both otherwise how can you access your customer area to get the upgrade...

Exactly! However, when I've done upgrades for clients in the past, if they didn't want to give me their credentials for their Members Area to download the package they requested to be installed, I either told them I couldn't do it, or I had them upload the .zip to their server and notify me as to the location it gets uploaded to. :)

You should be the only one downloading the .zip, once done you can attach via email and shoot it over to them along with the customer number as it's the only thing required i.e. for the installation or upgrade script to function. You should never, ever give out your password to the members area! Now I'm not saying that I don't have a few handy as some simply do not touch the back end of their own sites yet some do however giving your password to others should not be taken lightly and ultimately it's your account therefor your responsible for it.
