Okay, I know this has been mentioned a million times, but I want this hack, and am willing to pay for it.

I would like it to be based on Overgrown's adaptation of the hack. With the little bars and such. I would like it to be member rating member not solely admin rating member.

This can be like a mini auction.

I will make my decision based on price, quality of the member, and ease of installation.

Let the bidding begin!

:)

PS - You can take a look at my forum to see the color scheme which is basically the same as the default (I just love this color blue!)

back to back requests... one above the other.. one below the other.. geeze

caserini 08-31-2001 07:25 PM

Obviously, you can see this is something that people want...

BADLY!

BradC 08-31-2001 07:35 PM

Yah I noticed... lol :)

Don't worry we are working on it.. but got side tracked by a crap load of other things.. don't ya just hate that :)

But if someone can get this done for ya.. and you pay for it... it most likely will not be released... unless you want to spend your money only to share it hehe..

btw.. like was stated maybe elance.com can help.

icq me, I can get it done in like 3 days

caserini 08-31-2001 08:05 PM

Snyx, do you mean you have already attempted components of this, know the requirements and have deternined you could achieve it in 3 days? I ask because I am considering paying someone right now to create this hack for me ...

As BradC notes, and from reading many prior karma requests, apparently this feature-set is both:

(1) high in demand
(2) sufficiently complex so as not to want to simply give it away considering such hard work & resource time

Last I have followed, wluke at one point was going to create this hack and release it here, but mostly due to (2) above, is reserving it for use at his sitepoint community, for competitive edge purposes (which makes perfect sense.) Overgrow also created a karma hack, but chooses not to release it here, same reasons. BradC and ToraTora! were collaborating to solve their version of karma. But sounds like same thing -- (2) above.

So, seems one approach is to hire someone to hack a solution -- in which case you are paying for that person's time.

But because of (1) above, makes sense to me that someone might consider finding a way to sell their already-completed hack code. Can someone explain to me the "rules", if any, about selling hack code? Is vB okay with this? Is it expressly prohibited? Is it "culturally" encouraged or discouraged?

I am already clear on the main issue that: vB will not officially support any user who has installed any hack code. But if a vB license holder chooses to buy and install hack code, does vB have a problem with this? Please give me the lowdown.

Thanks, Richard

I have not tried it yet -- but maybe it is most efficient to contact vB site owner MattR and discuss buying the hack he created. The question is: does it perform well? Anyone know?

MattR, Overgrow, wluke, Freddie discuss/compare how they'd prefer "karma" hacks to work: http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...4414#post54414

Here's vB user Overgrow's description of the "karma" hack he created (inspired by wluke) on his vB site overgrow.com: http://www.overgrow.com/edge/showthr...threadid=20338

Here are search results for the word "karma" on that site, with explanations about how they employ it there: http://www.overgrow.com/edge/search....iews&sortdesc=

Just so everyone knows...I would really like the "karma" in the Karma Hack...meaning I would like it to be like Overgrown's.

I don't want a simple little rating system with pluses or minuses... I want to make it fun.

That's MY requirement.

SOME of my krama hack features would include (ruff type up)

-full CP features (ie. features below editable via CP)
-admins set a vote flooding (ie. user can only give karma ot a user, once a day, once a week, once a month)
-all users start at 0 karma, one GOOD karma gives them +1 one BAD karma gives them -1
-users gain a CP set number of +karma when they hit posting marks (ie. user is at +5 karma, he hits his 100 post, he gets +5 karma
-karma reset (ie. set all karma on users to reset after 1,5,12 month(s) or never
-users can't give karma until set number of posts (ie. new users can't give karma until they hit 10 posts, or from when they join)
-when mods, or admins give karma it counts for more (ie. you can set your mods to give +2 or -2 karma when normal users would be +1 or -1)

so many other features, most number ones are editable from CP, I don't have time to type them all out, cuz I gotta do some lawn work :p email me, or icq me if ya wanna talk more
