Need some help with a university project - Android

Not sure if this is the correct forum but here goes:

I've got to create an android app for university which can pull data from a vbulletin 3.8 forum. Directly from the database preferably, and so that I can talk to the database.

I know there are apps out there that can do this and similar but I have to create it myself. I'd just like to know where to start.

You basically have to create your own files to do all the basic things you need to do on a forum...

Basically your own mobile version of forumdisplay.php, showthread.php, and index.php. That would give you the must basic ability to read data... it will get more difficult quickly if you need to include user permissions and ability to actually post.

FYI to my knowledge the popular vBulletin mobile apps were created by TEAMS of coders, not one person. This isn't going to be an easy project.
