replycount conditional in header

I am trying to make the following work in the header, and I just can?t:

<vb:if condition="$thread[replycount] == 0">

Please, if anyone, I would really appreciate

The problem is that there's no $thread available in the header template. Also, the header is used on a lot of pages and not all of them have one thread associated with them. Is this something you only want on certain pages?

it should be appear on the header because it is intendeed to add a nofollow to those threats without answers
