Making your own Avatars

Okay I have Photo shop and I am new at it...for my site I want to make some car avatars from old dealer brochures I scanned. I can get better quality by scanned them again at a higher pixels setting but this is my first test. I know how to do everything except I want to crop the edges and save the middle of the picture..what more do I need to know..I know how to save it and resize it..see the attached screen shot..I croped the outside areas and I only want the picture that's left in the middle...thanks in advance.

Okay for now I figured out a dirty way to do it...I highlight the part I want to keep...I copy it then paste it in a directly in a picture folder...I then open it up again with Photo Shop...change the size and save it as a jpeg...wa la...
