Easy question - Upgrade from 4.1.4 to 4.1.5

I'm not that experienced with doing upgrades. But I do know how to use Filezilla to get my my forums area.

So I want to upgrade from 4.1.4 to 4.1.5.
1. I downloaded the patch from the members area. The patch was two files
>>>Includes>Class_Core.php
>>>Includes>Version_vbulletin.php

2. I used FileZilla and when into my forum area and found the these files and renamed then:
Class_Core.php I made into Class_Core_old_8_8_11.php
Version_vbulletin.php I made into Version_vbulletin_old_8_8_11.php

*** I did this just in case I screwed it up, and I could fall back....

3. I copied the files new file over to the Includes directory where the old files were.

4. I did a Ctrl-F5, and nothing changes. I still see 4.1.4 at the bottom of the page. Why did n't this work?

Thanks.....

download the full latest version from members upload and overwrite all files then run upgrade.

I know this sounds stupid, but, when you say "run upgrade" is that a button I push somewhere in the admin area? or is it a command I type?

Edit: Found it....
It's in the vbulletin manual under "Running the vBulletin Upgrade Script"
(for those that don't know this stuff like me)

Dang it, it didn't work....

I want to upgrade from 4.1.4 to 4.1.5, and when I run the install script, it installs the 4.1.4 again...

What am I doing wrong?

Probably you haven't overwritten the foum files. You are uploading them the 4.1.5. pl 1 files in the wrong location.

The files are there, and the install says it did it, but it did it for 4.1.4. I needed 4.1.5.
Here is the snapshot of my screen showing the files are there. I renamed the old files just so I could have them in case I messed up...
Any ideas now?

If you're doing an upgrade from 4.1.4 to 4.1.5, you don't download the patch. You need to download/upload the entire package and run upgrade.php

Boofo 08-09-2011 11:49 PM

Patches are only for the same version of vb: 4.1.5 to 4.1.5 PL1, and so on.

Lynne 08-09-2011 11:50 PM

You only download the patch files if you are already running that version of the software. Otherwise, if you want to change versions, you need to download the whole new package and upload all the new files and then run the upgrade script.

I think I may be getting WAY over my head, but... Let me ask....
To go from 4.1.4 to 4.1.5 you need to download this entire package.

So I downloaded the entire package from the Vbulletin.com using this area, which
is alot more than the two files I originally had.
Do I just upload all those file and overright the old files?
btw: is there a procedure "for the complete idiot"?

Lynne, Boofo, HMBeaty - I was typing while you guys posted. So I didn't read what you wrote until now. So I think I understand it now.
I go get the entire package, and copy the 30 or so files to whatever folder they need to be. Then I run the script, and it should work? Correct?

I really appreciate you guys help...
