How did this user.. create the same username?

I for one dont understand it.. is he a hacker?

He created and registered a user acount name that was already in use.. and yes.. i checked many times.. if the user name had diffrent letters or space.. and i even tried to do it myself .. but all i get is "invald username or already in use" so how did he do it? is this a attack.. or a bug that needs to be patched up? 4.14

Maybe some sort of hidden character? You don't allow HTML in usernames do you?

Anyway unless you can reproduce it there's no point in claiming it's a bug. Just ban the guy, or change his name for him. I wouldn't worry unless it starts happening a lot.

You need to add this to the Options -> User Registration Options -> Illegal User Names to fix that.

Code:

# &

Done, just because I trust you. But can you explain to a non-coder what it is we're banning here? With a space between these characters I assume this is two separate entries. But what's the point?

This is supposed to stop the same username issue. There was a thread on the com a while back about this very same thing and this was the fix that was posted for it. I don't remember exactly where the thread is or what the full explanation was, but apparently it did fix it. Sorry I can't give you a better explanation. ;)

This is also another way to help with this issue. I think I did this, too, a while back.

<a href="https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php/300949-Duplicate-user-names!?p=1700164&viewfull=1#post1700164" target="_blank">https://www.vbulletin.com/forum/show...=1#post1700164</a> looks interesting too.

Yes, I saw that, too, but with the setting I showed you, I didn't think I needed to go that route.

Thanks Boofo..

But for 1 .. How did he do it? Im just really curious.. cause when i typed it in it didnt work

is it because maybe the # ? are invisable?

Boofo 08-02-2011 04:35 AM

I'm not sure but I know they had to use invisible characters to do it. That setting should stop it from happening again.
