Anyone ever do this? (Failed Plesk Panel upgrade, oops)
 

First off, I guess I can say I'm hosted on GlobalGold VPS lol. But, on Tuesday, I had a notice at the top of my Plesk Panel saying version 10.3.0 is available and ready for upgrade. I was running 10.0.0 at that time. So, I clicked upgrade (as anyone probably would lol), and let it do its thing. After all was said and done, I tried to access my site only to receive "Bad Response From Server" :eek:. Then the emails started coming in.... "Reconfiguring Apache on host <usmilitarylife.com> failed" and all sorts of different messages and errors. So I sent a message to support explaining what I did and what happened. Got a message back from support a couple hours later with a message explaining what was wrong and an ETA, etc, etc, but the part that really caught my eye in that email was "Unfortunately, you should have contacted Global Gold if your intention was to upgrade, as special licences are needed to be applied to your server before you commence." How was I supposed to know :confused:? lol

So, lesson learned, before you upgrade ANYTHING (relating to your server/host) check with your host to make sure things will go smoothly. lol

LOL I actually did that on a dedicated server once.

It happened on an upgrade from Plesk 9.x to 10.x.

Needless to say, the next few servers stayed in the 9.x series and will never be upgraded beyond that. ;)

This same exact thing happened to me. I complained on their forums a bit telling them how they should inform customers about how upgrades work with licenses. Luckily this happened on a newly provisioned dedicated box, so fixing it was easy. :p

And thats why I hate Plesk.

Everyone has their preferences. Personally I don't like C-Panel, but given a choice I would either not use a control panel or go with ISPConfig on a raw server. The more simple something is, the less can go wrong with it.

Unfortunately, the owners of the servers I manage don't know squat about Linux and either of my preferences would be totally out of their realm.

I loved Plesk 9.x - im not so keen on 10.x

I agree. 10.x has a lot of redundant features and much harder to navigate than 9.x was
