How about a hack that adds MSN Instant Messenger to those supported IMs?

I believe this is dependent on Microsoft and we can't do anything about it. :(

Is it a legal/licensing issue? I've seen an MSN Message center hack. It seems that it would be a simple thing to do, but if there are legal entanglements... I wouldn't want to face MS' lawyers.

Microsoft has yet to release the Messenger SDK or approve its web integration code for use outside of its MSN properties.

While you can build the code yourself and access it, they haven't provided the resources to do so. I have seen their code. It is long and complicated but an elegant implementation of Javascript. If they released an SDK, I would put that code up in a heartbeat on my site. However since they haven't I won't infringe on their rights.
