Remove #navtabs but keep sub links

I want to get rid of the "Forum", "What's new" tabs and the bar they sit on (seems to be #navtabs) but I notice that somehow the links under those are child elements...? Is there any easy way to do this or does it all have to be restructured?

You would need to edit the navbar template to do this.
