Category Display

It looks like vBulletin has all of the features I need for a new project, but I need to be able to display the categories a certain way given I will have around 20 main categories with 5 sub categories each.

We found a way to list the categories in a vertical column but would like to display them in 3 or more columns similar to this: http://www.ehow.com/how-to.html

(preferably with indented subcategories under main categories)

Can anyone give me an idea of what would have to be edited to achieve this, or a code snip from someone that has done it before? Thanks in advance for any help.

Edit: Sorry. It's version 4.1.4 ... think the latest version.

Categories or Sections?

Categories, thanks.

vB 'Categories' don't have 'sub-categories'... Sections have 'sub-sections'... is why I was asking. The page you used as an example is a hardcoded html page.
Is this to be your 'landing'/'home' page? Sorry for all the questions, I'm curious. One of the pro-coders might be able to do this.

No, no, I appreciate the questions. Its obvious I'm just getting into this, sorry.

1. It wouldn't have to be hardcoded html and in fact it would probably be best if it wasn't because I'd like it to refresh when new categories are added. Search-engine-friendly would be a great plus though.

2. I would like it to be the landing page, but a link off of that would be fine as well.

I believe I had this worded incorrectly. I meant categories, but what I meant by the subcategories was the list of forums.

Here is a picture pointing to what I mean as categories and forums as subcategories.

Not sure if it's possible (again, one of the pro-coders might be able to do it), but the first thought that comes to mind would be for the main 'content.php' to just contain the 'section' (since you are wanting 'subs' and categories don't have those) navigation widget and nothing else. But, I'm not sure that could be configured to display in 3 columns.... vB doesn't use 'tables' per se. If you don't get any other replies, I'd suggest posting a request in either (or both) the Unpaid Mod request forum or the Paid request forum.

Oh. I see now, I thought you were talking about the CMS sections/categories. But, yes, there is a mod here somewhere I know for having sub-forums display in columns under their respective main forums, but not sure if the board as a whole can be displayed the way you want.

You *can* have the 'sub-forums' display under their respective 'forums' on FORUMHOME; it's a matter of setting the 'depth' to display in your admincp>options, and as I said I believe there is a mod to have those sub-forums display in columns. I'll look and see if I can find the mod and will post a link to it.

Check my forum for proof of concept.

I think part of my confusion about what you meant was the site you pointed to as an example used the term 'articles' and in vB 'articles' are in the CMS (though they *can* have originally been a topic/thread in a forum/subforum).
