What do you charge for a ad on your site?
 

For a typical banner ad to show on all pages, say like google ads do. Any one out there have a site with banner ads for a paying customer? How much do you charge for a week, a month or what ever time period????
I hope I can ask this here. I have no clue on what to charge someone that has asked me.

Depends how busy your site is.

How many members?
How many unique visitors per month do you get?

Are your members mostly local or national or international?
Is the advertiser local or national or international?

My site is for a band that has been around for 40 years, I have a international site as far as membership. I have not looked at user visit numbers in some time but the site stays fairly busy with regular members and just lurkers (non members). I am not looking to hold up the dude, he is a friend to the site. 50 bucks a month? 100?

so no one can help me here at all? Surely some one out there charges for ad space on their sites???

I use google adsense. I would say go with a number that you feel comfortable with and a time period that it will show for. If your doing this to make money, then do what you feel you deserve. Play with it and figure out what's something that people will pay to advertise and what people won't pay. Work a plan out with your friend if you have to.

I use google also, but if you put up other ads along with theirs I believe that is not allowed per their policy.

I charge about $50 for banners in the header (468x60) at about 1/2 the visits you have. You could probably get $100 per month. I also give discounts based on longer terms such as a 10% discount on 6 months prepaid and 15% with 12 months prepaid.
