How do I transfer to new host and change Domain name??

I'm sure there is a tutorial or a catchall thread on how to do this so all I'm asking is if someone can steer me in the right direction please...

I need to keep my board intact, but it has to be moved to another HOST server and the domain name changed...

PLUS, I have VbadAdvanced installed, is this going to be an issue??

First of all,
Download all files from the "public_html" folder. After that, download the database, and replace links from the "datastore" table with the links of the new domain name.

If the database is big download:
http://www.ozerov.de/bigdump/

Edit the bigdump.php with the database details, after that edit your config.php file with the new database details, upload all php files on the new hosting. That should be it! :)

Awesome "Frosty" thanks!!!

Will VbadAdvanced and other MODs also transfer as well... ?

Will it also be pretty evident once I open the database where the "datastore" table is?

Yeah, it's pretty much easy. You could do it also before you switch, you can change the url of your board and then close it. After that, download the SQL and it would be like you did the same thing.

To add, you can transfer to your same host with the same domain, then once the transfer is completed, just change your domain, or if you can't, have your host change it. Depends on the host your going to transfer too.

If you use cPanel, you can go to the Backups section, and download a whole thing of your forum, this downloads the public_html which is were your vBadvanced installation is currently found at.

Other mods will be transfered, since it's just a plugin seeped into vBulletin it'self.

For more information on this matter on switching hosts, you can check out a wonderful guide by vBulletin, right here http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/moving_servers

Hope that helped!

OK, all went smooth with the move...

One Q, I moved the site then I changed the default folder name from 'forums' to 'site'.... but now IMAGES didn't update and are all still looking for them in 'forums/images'.

How or where is the setting to get IMAGES to update to 'site/images/.....

Or do I have to do some sort of cache thing and how is that done?

Did you change your URL in the Forum URL setting in vBulletin Options -> Site Name / URL / Contact Details options?

In your style -> All Style Options are the paths correct for the images?

Frosti 06-05-2011 01:08 PM

THNX!!! totally forgot about that styles area with all those URLs in it...
