Changing colors.. Any manual worth spending time reading??

Okay, this is the first time I've set up a VBulletin but jesus christ WTF is this??

The manual that comes with vBulletin got to something of the worst POS
I've ever seen..
How is a vBulletin beginner even going to get started??
There's not a reasonable way to know what part you're changing when trying
to do such a simple task as changing a color of a text...

I've tried using the CMS visual dictionary and it has help somewhat
but since things obviously have changed since it was written it still leaves me hanging..
I want a black & red theme/style with white text...
I though I'd have that sorted out in an hour or something..
1½ days later I'm still can't see what value to change and know what the outcome will be..

So..
Is there any manual/dictionary worth the name or any way of doing things easier??
Tried a few downloaded templates but since I've got 4.1.2 there's nothing that works..

Tried vbAdvanced, which I still don't see why it would help in any way but perhaps it'll
prove useful later on..

How about starting with the Style Generator? Or how about 9 Easy Steps to Styling Your Forum

There is also a tutorial here about using firebug. Have a look at it as well. It is very handy.

That works perfectly for the big parts.. i.e. background and stuff..
But when it comes to lines and text it doesn't help unfortunately..

I've read the 9 steps and utilized a few of the tips but it says nothing about lines and
text color.. Check out hayabusa.nu/forum and you'll see what I mean.. :)

What I'm looking for is some kind of guide that explains what each name points to so
I can plan and understand what I'm changing and then get the result I expect...
Installing/uploading styles doesn't seem to work 'cause nothing/very little is written for 4.1.2..

Thanks, Chrome has "inspect element" and it works as a sort of guide that at least can point you in a somewhat direction.. Didn't thihk of that...
But seriously, jelsoft charges over ?220 for this and can't even provide a manual worth the name... Doesn't that kinda suck?

While I agree with some of your points (I would LOVE to see a detailed style manual), this site is helpful.
