Battlefield3online.com

I have just launched my first ever forum to cater for the fans of Battlefield 3. It's relatively small forum but I'm running a great competition to encourage users to join.

If you would like to review the website I would love to hear your feedback. I've been going through the code to try and keep the site consistent across all the pages. With that said I'm adamant that some of the fonts are wrong (both the wrong family and size). If you spot anything that you think is wrong, or out of place then please please please let me know. Also if you think I could improve the look of the site or anything else then again please let me know as I'm really trying to aim to keep things consistent.

A big thank you to anyone that helps :)

I like that alot, very nice. Only thing I would personally do is add a bit more emphasis to the navigation by making it bigger. Is that a custom style?

morgano 03-26-2011 03:28 PM

Hi, yes it's a custom style. Thanks for your feedback, the nav bar is a little bit of a pain. The font was slightly larger but once logged in you have some extra options (logout, settings, profile and admin) which proved a bit of a squeeze. I'm definitely considering some options to improving that aspect.

JacquiiDesigns 03-26-2011 07:51 PM

That's a really nice style - very suitable for the niche and quite deliciously designed.
You should enter it in this month's Board of the month comp :)

Jacquii.

edit: one thing I'd change right away is your main forum index icons, specifically the ones that are using the default vB icons ==> http://www.battlefield3online.com/im...um_link-48.png for instance. That "link" icon looks completely out of place amongst the custom new/old icons....

Sorry for taking time to get back to you Jacquii. I would be honoured to be board of the month, however I am still actively working on this. I'd like to make it perfect. I've made some alterations, added some new elements and changed some of the icons you suggested. However these aren't permanent I need some real icons so I will hold off entering until that is complete.

There is a problem in Firefox 4 with the nav bar (still unsure on the fix). Any other suggestions from anyone?

Thank you for the feedback thus far :)

hmmm - maybe if you can specific an actual width in the css definition.
width: 100%;

morgano 04-11-2011 05:12 PM

Good idea, but a bit of a pet hate of mine :)

Sometimes I like a forum to be a fixed width.

Using internet explorer 7 (only browser currently available to us military types still...hmph.)

Just wanted to let you know if you didn't there's alignment issues experienced in IE7.

Well BF2 must be my all time favourite game, however before I even followed the link I knew it was going to be Black lol. I am not a great one for dark forums to start off with. I really like your logo nicely done. I hate banner ads always seems to take a lot away from a site and I always wonder if the return on having them is worth the effort. I would like to see a bit more graphics relating to the game itself but overall very nice site

morgano 04-17-2011 08:05 PM

I'd say it was green not black, I hate black too, but I agree it's dark :D. I have to admit I wanted to keep it "gamey" without it being a stereotypical gamer site. There's current only 1 banner advert so hopefully it doesn't detract too much.

I might update the background to include some battlefield imagery but I will definitely have to think about it carefully :)

Thank you for alerting me to the IE7 issue, unfortunately those issues look pretty bad. I'm not great with CSS so I don't think I could get that fixed alone. IE7 however is a dying browser (thank god), so i'm not sure if that will ever get fixed. (I'll have to see).

Thanks for your comments as always. I will see what can be done :)
