Need advice on new member access

Hello -

Looking for advice on how you all handle new members access.

1. Does a new member automatically have new thread post access on your forum?
2. Reply only access?
3. Can they post URLs?
4. Do you confine new members to a certain forum or thread?
5. Do you manually validate each member?

Thanks

I use email validation. Once registered they can do anything but post images and url's for 5 posts. Works for us.

I like that idea. Can that be modified so that new members have to post a certain amount before they are able to access a live chat room?
Like post 4 or 5 times before access to the chat room will be allowed? Or maybe require my members to post in the forum at least once a month, or something like that?

The reason I am asking this is there are a lot of members on my site who registered but haven't done anything. And there are members who only registered so they can chat, but I can't tell who is completely inactive or just goes into the chat room.

I use this mod: https://vborg.vbsupport.ru/showthread.php?t=177704
"Advanced Permissions Based on Post Count" - lets you control a lot of things based on post count.

You could use the promotions system (built in) to move people with 5 or however many posts to a new usergroup, and give that usergroup permission to use the chatroom or any other permissions you can think of.

"Demoting" users who don't post regularly is a little harder, I think I saw a mod that would not allow you to post in a forum unless you made x posts per week but I don't remember what it was called.

Thanks, I will try out that mod also.

thank you. I will take a look at that and also show it to my assistants to see what they think about it. If It's put into TCC, I'll let you know how well it goes over.
