External RSS feed questions
 

I have a flash feed reader pulling a certain forum's posts from my boards. It only shows the first 25 words of each item.

If I go to my RSS feed IE or Safari, the feed shows the entire post. Viewing in Firefox, however, only shows the first 25 or so words of each item.

My feed reader also only shows 25 or so words (as do other feed readers).


How can I get the feed reader to show the entire post?

I can shorten it to say 200 words in my reader's admin, but the RSS feed seems to be truncated at 25 words for some reason when readers are used to output my feed.

I should also state that there are some readers on the 'net that you can input your feed url into. Those, as well, cut off the items at the 25 word mark.

It doesn't look like 25 chars, but maybe you've changed it since posting? In any case - the RSS2 feed contains a description and content. The description is plain text and is cut off at the "Thread Preview Length" (defaults to 150 chars) unless &fulldesc was specified on the url. When you look at the feed with the first link you're looking at the "content" part which has the full text.

I'm not sure how to fix it - can you specify "&fulldesc" on the url (or is that 2nd link someone else's site?). I suppose you could edit the file external.php and make it always include full text for the description, but I don't really know a lot about RSS feeds so I don't know if that's a good idea or not.

Its 25 WORDS, not characters that show up. The content is what's being shortened in the second link. Its just a feed reader (any feed reader does the same thing and shortens the contents). That's what I'm looking to see more of.

Right, my mistake - but that explains it. It's actually 150 characters max (it stops at a space before it goes over 150 chars).

If you view the source (like if you go to the url in IE and right click) you'll see that there's a "description" tag and a "content" tag, and the short version is what's in the description tag.

BTW, to use the fulldesc thing it has to be "&fulldesc=1" (not just &fulldesc). For instance, using FF go to this url: http://www.world-baseball.org/forums...=12&fulldesc=1 and I think you'll be seeing what you want.
