Limited Viewing!! Is this possible?

Hello!

I want to restrict the daily thread views for Registered Usergroup members (and if possible for one more usergroup Lurkers otherwise I will have to delete it if I can restrict only one usergroup).

Is this possible?

Use the Limited Guest Viewing mod and adapt so it can be for the groups that you want instead of guests.

I dont think this mod have ability to limit views on the daily bases. Isnt it limit total number of views for the visitor?

Yes, but as I siad, you can modifiy it to suit your needs.

Or you can code or have someone code for you a new mod from scratch.

He's already asked over in that mod and it doesn't look easy to do. Usually once a person registers that grants them full access. I've never seen a mod that limits different usergroups to x numbers of reads per y hours.

I suggested to him earlier that it could maybe be done with vbulletin subscriptions, but I've never messed with them so I don't know.

Must be nice to have a forum that's so busy you can even cut off full members!

It is easy to adjust it to what the OP wants.

Maybe for you. But that mod was designed with a single usergroup in mind (Guests), and would require a lot of re-coding to also accommodate multiple usergroups and multiple conditions.

But in the end it probably doesn't make much sense anyway, as I still think what he's trying to accomplish would be better done with the subscription system already in place.

All he has to do is to replace the conditional for guests with one that will include all groups and choose only the groups that he wants or hard code it directly for only the groups that he wants.

Of course, you must know some php to do that but if you do then it is very easy.

Thank you for the suggestion. Can you please highlight how I can use subscription system in this way?

Videx 02-22-2011 01:01 AM

I can't answer that for two reasons. First (and most importantly) you haven't told anyone exactly what it is you're trying to accomplish. Second, as I said before, I don't use subscriptions so I'm the wrong person to ask.

FYI, the manual is at vBulletin Manual which should explain subscriptions.

PS Borbole has been known to write mods on a whim. You've got him halfway there, but again since nobody else is asking for this I don't think you'll get him to do it. I still think everyone else does it with subscriptions.
