Unwanted People

Please help me if you can; I have a large number of spammers and I have done everything I know of to get rid of them to only have them return. Can someone please help me? My site
address is www.blackngoldpride.com

Thank you so very much for your time,
Steelerlyn aka Lyn.

If you are talking about random spamming bots that post random things, you need to look at enabling the verifying email for registration, then you need to add a module that stops bots. Such as captcha etc.. I am sure that will work.

If you are talking about people actually spamming you, there is no official way of banning them from the site, you can IP ban them from webhost, or you can vbulletin ban them. But they can change their IP address. Search for a cookie ban plugin that will ban the computer until the user has cleared all internet cookies.

We just changed to "Random Questions" from reCAPTCHA for the Human Verification setting, and the spammer registrations dropped to only a few per day (we only added a few questions with trivial answers like "what is 1 + 1?"). I had seen that mentioned here a number of times but I couldn't believe it would have that big an effect until I saw it myself. For a while before that we were using something called zbblock, which worked pretty well except that we were occasionally getting members blocked so we finally decided not to use it.

I use a combination of Human Verification with topic specific questions that my demographics would easily know, but not the general public, and user moderation with manual lookups on stopforumspam for anything funny. I've had only 22 attempted spam signups in almost 2 years. :)

First I'd see about installing Zb Block - Stop Spam & 'bots @ Server, then I would add the vbStopForumSpam MOD as well. Using them together, I see about one Spammer/year make it onto our board before they realize they can't post or PM their messages anyway.
