subscription expiry and inactive status

Hello,

Is there a way to have vb send out the subscription expiry notices as it does, but disable just the function of automatically disabling their access?

I currently have it set up so that payments are renewed automatically via authorize.net. I would like them to get the expiry reminders so they can cancel if they like, but I don't want vb to disable their access, since they're actually renewing, just not via the website.payments.php.
