Facebook Integration
 

I'm about to install the new 4.1 package & i've been looking at what people have done to integrate facebook more. there seems to be lots of people still using 4 before VB integrated facebook & then using the facebook integration mod. can someone tell me why? is it because the mod version has more features? is anyone working on extending the new vb4.1 facebook integration? has anyone worked on integrating twitter (login using your twitter account) or other services like facebook now is? I've been checking the forum for some time now and all I do is confuse myself.

from what i can see

by default VB4.1 lets you
- register an account by login in w/ facebook
- link your current account to a facebook account. when you link it, it grabs your location, occupation, and interests & imports them into your vb account.
- gives you a publish to facebook checkbox for threads & replies which works like posting a link to your page.

the YAFB mod appears to go steps further by handling facebook notifications, a facebook profile block in the vb profile, setting up your av, etc.

I don't think the mod is much better to be honest, people are already able to like threads & join through the default vB code

3.8.x never had Facebook integration by vBulletin. Someone decided to do it and then vBulletin decided to add it for the 4.x

That is why people uses a mod for their 3.x.

Some people don't want to upgrade due to the fact there is yet a way to transfer the registered members from the FB mod to the vB FB members, or able to "merge" them and retain their facebook "connect" status.

gotcha

the more i look at the mod, the more it seems like some of the cool stuff like notification & a tab on your FB page are no longer working.

when the current connect promotes a post to facebook, it's like when you post a link. the mod was cool cause it would just list a sentence to say so & so made a new thread blah bla blah on www.com. it looked really built into fb like one of the lines that says so & so is now freinds with so & so.
