Sphinx search BETA for vBulletin 4.0 on Load Balanced web servers
Is it possible to point this plugin to a centralized sphinx server via those host settings in config.php without actually having to install sphinx on the web server? Obviously I need to install the vb related files on each server but I have a load balanced setup of multiple vbulletin board servers and don't want to have to install sphinx on every single web server. Would think my search results would get out of whack if each server was looking at sphinx results locally instead of to a centralized sphinx server.

I am having this exact same issue. Sphinx Search server should be running on the database server. I believe vBulletin created it like this for simplicity, but it actually makes things harder.
What is the easiest solution to this? Just copying the vBulletin files/config to your database server, installing Sphinx Search server on your database server, and doing it that way? |
