I think you can do it via Forums & Moderators > Forum Permissions > Edit Permission for Unregistered/Not Logged in > Can View Forum - No

You can also do the same for Users Awaiting Email Confirmation and Awaiting Moderation.

Just go to Admin - Usergroups and edit what you would like un-registered people to see and do

wow thanks but that deletes the whole forum, is there any like for example a mod that says you have to sign in to show the forum?

Read my post mate, You can edit the usergroup to allow them to view and not post, or not view at all, etc ,etc
