Styckyd: Part Forensics - Automotive Parts Wiki

1 Attachment(s)
This plugin allows your community to share and read product information as well as help your advertisers by linking to their sites from the product pages.

We are automotive enthusiasts that are building a system to solve many of the problems that are encountered when trying to get information and reviews on the parts that we want to install on our cars, and then figure out where to buy them. Our goal is to support the community (Specifically automotive forums) and continue to alter the system so that it serves enthusiast's needs.

Key features:
- Links your advertisers with the parts they sell
- Product information is crowd-sourced from the entire automotive enthusiast community
- Integrates with your vBulletin templates and branding
- Allows users to edit product information, add pictures and reviews

DEMO:

If you run into any issues with installation or operation, please let me know and we'll be able to get that fixed up right away.

Sounds great but where is a demo of it in action?

KerryF 11-10-2010 12:09 PM

We will have that up very soon for everyone to see but wanted to get this out for everyone. I'll post again when our demo vBulletin forum is up.

The demo forum has now been setup. I'd love to hear your thoughts!

I like that a lot but you need to get some more parts on there as examples!

Thanks for the comment, Sticky.

We're working on two things right now to accomplish that. First, we're going to change the search a bit so it allows users to auto-add a part when the search returns no results. Second, we're in discussions with some large retailers that like to advertise on automotive forums that can also provide a database of parts they'd like to be linked to - that should help to populate the database a little more to make it a little more useful for the end-users.

This is a product that will take a little bit of time for all of the value to be apparent, I think. We have some new stuff coming that will make it immediately more valuable.

More thoughts/comments/critiques are always welcome. Even if you hate it and think it's a ridiculous idea, we'd like to hear why.

Cool, I'm going to follow closely. I run an automotive forum and I am always looking out for what can makes things better/easier for the users.

Well we'd love to work with you, Sticky. Is there anything stopping you from testing it out now? If so, maybe we can fix that so that it'll work.

KerryF 11-25-2010 04:29 PM

We're currently talking with a few large forums and some large national advertisers who are interested in the system. More feedback and forums using it so that we can make it better are always welcome.
