Assign Image to Category

I'd like to have an image shown in an article illustrating what category it belongs to. Is this possible without manually adding the link and image to each article?

If I have to manually add the link and graphic, is there a I can create a bbcode that auto adds the link and graphic code so I don't have to write it out every time?
