Unqiue icons next to each forum/category?
 
I have vb 3.8, and I really like how this forum has a different image for each category/forum they have:

http://www.psu.com/forums/

How can I do this, is this a VB4 only feature?

Those are custom status icons and you can make them in 3.8- I have them on my site too. You need several versions called:
(yourname)_forum_old.gif
(yourname)_forum_new.gif
(yourname)_forum_old_locked.gif
(yourname)_forum_new_locked.gif

Each will show a different status of the forum it represents. In forum manager you put "(yourname)_" in the status icon prefix field.
