Changing Meta data to increase search results?

Can someone help me figure out where/how to change the meta data for VB forum to increase search results. I know that search results are based on more than just the meta data (I think I know), but I am led to believe I need to supplement/add to my meta data.
My website has a VB forum with CMPS homepage.

Any help would be appreciated.

I've heard Google ignores meta data these days because it's so often abused. I doubt it would help.
