Plugin Design Question
 
Hi,

I want to modify external.php to allow an extra parameters. The call would look like external.php?type=xml&username=xxx. When a username is specified external would return the user's latest post. I have vB 4.0.6.

Are there any existing products/plugins that offer similar functionality? Do you have any advice about where to start?

Lastly, are there a set of standards or rules I should adhere to in order for my work to be "supported" when released?
