Whats the best way to control spam

I was wondering if there was something where i could at least prevent the first post by a member from having a hyperlink in it somehow. For some reason my site goes through days where i will have at least 30 bots signing up and spamming away

any suggestions

Search for a mod called "Monkey Stop" it's from an earlier 3.x version but still works on 3.8.
