Changing forum colors/fonts...Where?

You all will have to excuse me on these questions. Complete newbie! ha, ha

Where is the best place to mess around with colors and fonts to my forum? Main CSS? StyleVars?

StyleVars definitely. If you're a "complete newbie", you might find the new Style Generator to be easier. It's on versions 4.0.4+ :)
