Spammers, How to keep them away?
 

As previous stated in my last thread, that got deleted:

My whole forum always get spammed by spammers.
They spam other sites, and porn.

I was on vaction for 2 weeks,
I had over 6000 spam theads and posts, and at least 3000 spam members.

How to keep them away, and reduce the spam they post.

I got a spam forum with no rules, but this is against everything.

Anyone got suggestions?

Start with this Mod, vbstopforumspam4 We use two, although the other one is written into the Register.php, and I don't have a link for it off hand :( Catches 99.9%, the two together stop 100%. =)

What is the name for the 2nd mod?

I'll check with our other Webmaster who actually installed it, unfortunately because it is a file hack, it doesn't show in the Plugins & Products Manager. I'm GMT, so expect a post in about 12 hours =)

You really only need to change your q&a. Or initiate a simple one, if you aren't using it. If they still get past that then you can go installing mods.

He has Questions and answers enabled so the user has to answer the correct
answer before they can complete registration..I have seen bots get past
Q/A but has been a while, so I am sure it could not be so easy to bypass

I setup a board about a year ago, and like within days the board
filled up with spam..I just hope this mod does the trick, I hate having
3-5 spam mods installed...we just need one really good spam mod.

We use Spam-O-Matic and Botscout.

We use to use vbstopforumspam but upgraded to spam-o-matic for it uses more engines.

Spambot requires you upload 1 file into the includes folder and adding 1 line of code into the register.php file. We get on average 300 bots attempting to sign up daily and all blocked.
