I was right with you not to long ago, here's what I do:

Can you login with ftp? Do you know how to find where you vbulletin is on your ftp? Probably public_html or public_html/forum

to unzip, find your download, right click, select extract all. Now there should be an unzipped folder in the same location as your downloaded zipped folder. (you might want to right click and send it to desktop if you have trouble finding it)

I use filezilla:

login to ftp, in upper right hand corner box find remote site. click on the folder, scroll down till you see public_html, double click it, if you see a bunch of folders.. admincp, clientscript, includes........ that's probably your vbulletin root. If you don't see a bunch of folder that look something like this, look for a folder called forum and look in there.

In the left hand window of ftp, local site, find your download. if it's on desktop, double click desktop, when you find your download double click on it until you see "upload" double click this folder. The contents of the upload folder will now be shown in the bottom window, right click everything in the bottom window and select upload.

Now the files are uploaded to your root directory, login to the backside of your website, find plugin & products, manage products, then click add/import product, click browse find your unzipped download and keep clicking the folder until you find an xml document in one of them, click on the xml document to upload it. Product installed!

for those who cannot ftp you may want to think about your servers cpanel as a place to upload files and get used to overwriting files, ftp is not the easy way to work on a site, cpanel is. so if you have a host you must have a cpanel. that is were you can manipulate your sites every options.

log into your host and look for it, once in you can upload the files and get to know your servers structure.
