Sphinx search for vb3.8

Has anyone looked into modifying the Sphinx search add-on, so that it can be used for vb 3.8? I know there is a $2.000 addon that's ready to go, but prefer a free or cheaper solution.

I highly doubt you can reverse engineer the current Sphinx solution to work with 3.8 without rewriting at least 50% to 75% of it.

You -may- be able to write a compatibility layer to coax 3.8 into using the current solution, but even then it probably won't perform as well as it should.

Is there another solution for sphinx on vb 3.8 that doesn't cost an arm and a leg?

There is a thread here all about Sphinx Search (sorry, I'm stuck on dial-up and I'm not gonna search for it) and I'm pretty sure everything you would need to implement sphinx on your 3.x board is in there. It will require file edits however, not a nice easy product like in 4.x.

This thread needs to be stickied. I know a lot of us where thinking the same thing. :D

Shawn (Digitalpoint) has informed me that over 300 hours went into the development of his sphinx search. So sphinx search for vb3 would be quite expensive, unless a good number of people chip in. So for a cheap coder to create this, we are talking over 10k. So if 20 people would chip in, that would be 500 each.

Lynne, I've looked for this discussion that you are referencing but didn't find it. Will you post a link to it now (that presumably you have a faster connection)?

Alfa1, which addon are you referring to?
