Site is taking too long to respond

Lately, SOME users not all, have been getting this error when they try to access my forum:

" *site name* is taking too long to respond"

Can you please tell me what the problem could be? I am using vBulletin version 3.6.4.

Please help me out asap. I am losing members to a rival forum because of this issue.

Can't really tell, many things can cause this such as server overload, plugins/mods/hacks making lots of requests/query's, etc...

check your server average in your admin panel as well see what numbers you're getting, if it's normal then your vB is Okay and the problem might be in your server or "the user" connection.

If it's too high then try to disable your Plugins/mods one by one and watch the average load if it's dropping down then you'll know which Plugin is causing this.
start with the most recent Plugins you installed.

Good Luck.

Can you guide me through this? I am not too familiar with the admin panel. How do I check server avg?

Just Login to your Admin CP then scroll a bit down, under Quick Administrator Links you will see: Server Load Averages That is the line where you can see the numbers.

It does not say "server load averages" anywhere. See the image below.
