Can a mod author see who is using their mod?

If I don't post in the mod's thread is there anyway for a mod author to see if I'm using their mod short of visiting my forum? Like do they get a list of people who have 'marked as installed' or 'downloaded' their mod?

As you say - if you post in the mods support thread, then the author can see if you have downloaded it, and marked it as installed. Other than that, no, there is no way to tell.
