I'm not sure what you're after... but the referral URL is
www.linktosite.com/register.php?referrerid={userid}

You mean:

www.linktosite.com/forums/forum.php?referrerid={userid}

The referrerid query string is available globally on the forum as it stores as a cookie (I believe), it's generally just easier to use on the register page.

Also, this is vb3 discussion so forum.php doesn't exist by default.

Still, it should be index.php as not all visitors are there to register until they have a chance to view what is on the site.

Yeah, I completely agree, though it's most used on the register page it can be used globally.

I have seen users put off with a site that sends them straight to the register page when they visit using a link like that. That is why it is always best to use the index.php in the link.
